FAQ - frequently asked questions
Why is the timetable of a railway company or a transport operator incomplete?
The data basis for the travel information systems is created by the "Europäische Fahrplanzentrum" (EFZ). There, the data is administered, edited and prepared for further use. The data preparation is handled specifically for the customers' need, i. e. weekly for online info sytems and monthly or as needed for other forms of media. Our task lies in the creation of software, meaning the technology. We therefore have no influence on the timely availability of the data.
Where the DB-Version for Windows can be ordered?
If you click this Internet address you can download the new offline-version "DB Fahrplaninformation" free of charge. We offer continuous updates of the timetable data on the internet. Update information via mail therefore is not necessary anymore. Why the Windows Mobile version of the Deutsche Bahn is not available?
Since december 2011 the mobile version for Handhelds with Windows Mobile 2003, 5.0 and 6x has been discontinued. You can find a choice of possible alternatives here.
Is an offline-client for HAFAS-iPhone also available?
The HAFAS-iPhone application delivers powerful client functionality to enable journey planning "on the go" for ad hoc local public transport usage scenarios as well as conventional long distance travel planing. Therefore, many European transport companies ordered HAFAS for the iPhone. You can find an overview here. At the moment an offline-client is not available.
In which way the real-time data of the Munich S-Bahn are calculated?
The comparison of the scheduled position of the train against its actual position provides the data for determining if a train in the S-Bahn network is travelling on time or if there is a delay, and if so by how many minutes. To display the positions of the trains on the map, the position reports of the trains are recorded at selected signal locations and extrapolated to the next signal location. Therefore this is currently not a GPS location system. In the spring of 2012 we are planning to use an optimised data source in order to achieve even better data quality for on-time and delayed services.
What is HAFAS-Print2Web?
Traditional print media, e. g. schedules with connections from city to city of Deutsche Bahn (DB), provide detailed information at a glance. With the system HAFAS-Print2Web, these traditional print products can be prepared for the internet.
For which customers can HAFAS-Print2Web be interesting?
Especially for commuters or frequent travellers who don not just use a specific connection on a special day, but are rather interested in a complete timetable for a larger time frame, e. g. for all workdays. Individual results can be transferred to the customer either via e-mail or directly via a website. Output formats are PDF for Adobe Reader, PDB for Palm-Organizers as well as J2ME for mobile phones capable of Java .
